Waste Management Telematics

The requirements of Waste Management on Telematics solutions are clearly set out: increase of efficiency, reduction of tonne kilometers, better verifiability of the quality of service and avoiding disruption of media…

The mm-lab Telematics solution has its focus on exactly these requirements and is able to add another critical point: it is capable to adapt to the specific, company-individual process environment.

The mm-lab Telematics solution enables the implementation of a seamless process chain for different types of waste (bulky waste, electrical equipment, organic waste, hazardous waste ...).  Beginning with order management over to tour planning, active tour guidance, automated job-done messaging and feedback of the level of completion to order management the whole process chain is covered.  Functions of a fleet management system such as an electronic log book, communication with the driver as well as vehicle tracking round out the system.

The Telematics solution supports the staff involved in the execution of the processes involving order management, dispatching and vehicle. Planning and optimizing different tours is done based on a graphical information system. The data received by the dispatcher can be individually edited and changed and directly forwarded to the respective vehicle. Tour guidance makes the handling and the documentation to the driver much easier. The tour status and the progress are clearly visible to driver and

to dispatcher at any time. A special call centre module to inform the customer is available. Adaptation of specific work flows and process environments can be performed.

The implementation of this Telematics solution for Waste Management is based on the Advanced Telematics Platform developed by mm-lab. This platform enables a variety of applications in parallel on one unified vehicle computer infrastructure as well as their dynamical management over the air (Cellular communication) interface.

Programs for tour planning and optimization

Dr. Achim W. Schröter reports from the technical committee logistics of the Verein Kommunaler Unternehmen (VKU) für Abfallwirtschaft und Stadtreinigung (VKU) how only the consistent use of telematics in the vehicle can make the next quantum leap possible. Using as an example the company "Zweckverband für Abfallwirtschaft im Raum Trier" (A.R.T.), where a customized telematics solution of  mm-lab is successfully in use, Dr. Schröter explains the possibilities offered by such a professional system. Summarizing he valuates such a system as a "real improvement for dispatchers  and drivers alike, particularly for young professionals and unexperienced drivers.
